AEW is a quite popular wrestling promotion that began in 2019 with Cody Rhodes and The Elite revealing that the rumors were true, they were putting together their own promotion and that wrestling promotion was called AEW. Currently, Cody is the top babyface in WWE, but there was a time when he was significant in the creation of AEW. “The American Nightmare” was so important that he believes that if he were not there, AEW would not exist today.
Rhodes played an important part in AEW’s success
Recently, the WWE champion appeared on the Cheap Heat podcast. While speaking with Pete Rosenberg, Rhodes talked about AEW’s beginning and how it wouldn’t have happened without his efforts.
“If we’re being honest, AEW wouldn’t have happened without me. It doesn’t. With that in mind, I could never root against them,” said Cody Rhodes.
Cody’s DUI comment appears to be a continuation of him noting that someone, or perhaps multiple people, at AEW tried to spread propaganda about him when he announced his plans to leave AEW and re-sign with WWE in 2022. His narratives have changed a lot about his contributions to the AEW. Cody stated that there were some people, he didn’t reveal their names but said that those people tried to create some kind of propaganda when he left.
Cody isn’t wrong in his sayings
Rhodes wasn’t alone in building AEW, but it is still amazing to look back at what he did before the formation of AEW, coupled with the state of the independent wrestling scene at the time. During that time, TNA was the second best wrestling promotion after WWE and Ring of Honor remained at the bottom even after being brought under AEW and Tony Khan. While everyone involved in making AEW successful would have wanted more for wrestling outside of WWE, Rhodes is not wrong when he says it would not have been a big success without his contributions.

If we talk about the cold wars or targeting each other, last week Tony Khan called WWE the Harvey Weinstein of pro wrestling, which seemed quite unnecessary and pointless as both promotions are doing well on their own. WWE took a huge strike after this year’s historic WrestleMania 40, which saw WWE legends come out, making cameo appearances and helping Cody win the undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
