AC Milan vs Lazio: Preview
AC Milan form analysis
Milan completed an impressive 4-1 home win over Torino thanks to goals from Pulišić, Giroud and Hernandez. They followed up with a professional 2-1 away victory against Roma as Giroud and Leao scored either side of Spinazzola’s late strike. However, defensive issues surfaced in a heavy 1-5 home loss in the derby to Inter, with only Leao on target.
Milan did bounce back to edge past Verona 1-0 at home courtesy of an early Leao goal. Most recently, they earned an excellent 1-3 away win at Cagliari, coming from behind through goals from Tomori, Loftus-Cheek and new signing Okafor.
Overall, Milan have showcased their quality in spells but suffered defensively at times. Leao and Giroud have led the attack well, while new additions like Okafor have added a threat. But the thrashing by Inter exposed vulnerabilities that Stefano Pioli must address. If Milan can build on resilient wins like those against Roma and Cagliari while tightening up at the back, they can challenge for the Scudetto this term.
Lazio form analysis
Lazio had a disappointing 1-0 home loss to Genoa, failing to break their opponents down. They followed that up with an excellent 2-1 away win at Napoli though, winning thanks to goals from Luis Alberto and Kamada. However, defensive issues surfaced in a 1-3 home loss to rivals Juventus, with only Luis Alberto’s strike in reply to goals from Vlahovic (2) and Chiesa.
Lazio then drew 1-1 at home against Monza, taking the lead through Immobile before Gagliardini equalized. Most recently, Lazio returned to winning ways by beating Torino 2-0 at home courtesy of goals from Vecino and Zaccagni.
Overall, it’s been an inconsistent start under Maurizio Sarri as Lazio struggle for consistency. They’ve showcased their attacking potential in wins over Napoli and Torino. But sloppy defending, highlighted in losses to Genoa and Juventus, remains an issue Sarri needs to address.
If Lazio can build on resilient displays like the victory at Napoli and tighten up at the back, they can challenge for the title again this term. But improving their defensive focus is crucial.
