AC Milan vs Fiorentina: Preview
AC Milan form analysis
Milan’s recent run of games has showcased an attack with real potency even if some defensive issues remain. They started with a nervy 1-0 away win at Genoa, needing a late Pulisic goal to clinch the points despite intense pressure. However, problems surfaced at the back in a disappointing 0-1 home loss to rivals Juventus, made to pay for passive first half defending by a sloppy second half goal. Their flair going forward was evident next game in an eight goal thriller away at Napoli, with Giroud netting twice before throwing away a two goal lead.
Back came the defensive struggles in a narrow 0-1 home loss to Udinese, caught out by a second half penalty after more unconvincing play at the back. Most recently they battled back impressively to draw 2-2 away at Lecce, with goals from Giroud and Reijnders either side of conceding twice.
Fiorentina form analysis
Fiorentina have struggled to find consistency so far this Serie A season. After a difficult 1-3 loss away to title contenders Napoli, Fiorentina suffered another defeat at home to Empoli 0-2. While they managed an improved defensive display, limiting Empoli’s dangerous attack, Fiorentina still lacked sharpness and cutting edge in the final third. Their struggles in front of goal continued against Lazio, with a late 1-0 loss seeing them fail to capitalize on chances created. However, there were signs of progress as Fiorentina produced their best attacking performance of the season so far against Bologna.
Goals from Bonaventura and González secured a 2-1 win and 3 vital points. Overall, Fiorentina have shown weaknesses both defensively and in attack. The loss to Napoli exposed vulnerabilities dealing with counterattacks, while structured deep blocks have also caused them problems breaking teams down. Improvement is needed creating high-quality chances and converting them. But the win over Bologna provides a platform to build confidence from. If Fiorentina can build a level of consistency in their attacking play and cut out individual errors, they have the potential to climb the table. Their upcoming fixtures will test this.
