AC Milan vs Atalanta: Preview
AC Milan form analysis
Rossoneri’s recent five-game Serie A run has perfectly encapsulated an inconsistent form. After a thrilling last gasp 2-3 win away to Udinese, Milan threw away a lead twice to draw 2-2 at home with Bologna despite Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s brace. Loftus-Cheek was on target again alongside Olivier Giroud in another rollercoaster 3-2 victory away to strugglers Frosinone, settled by a late Luka Jovic winner.
On a high, Milan then edged title rivals Napoli 1-0 courtesy of Theo Hernandez’s strike to reignite faint championship hopes. However, those aspirations suffered a huge blow after a shock 4-2 defeat away to mid table Monza, despite Giroud and Christian Pulisic goals. So while this Milan side has shown mental resilience to grind out wins, defensive issues and reliance on individual attackers for inspiration remains worrying. Finding greater cohesion and solidity will be crucial for Milan’s chances of salvaging their stuttering season.
Atalanta form analysis
Atalanta’s recent run of five Serie A matches has showcased their free-flowing attack firing on all cylinders. An emphatic 5-0 home thrashing of strugglers Frosinone kicked things off before Atalanta dispatched mid-table rivals Udinese 2-0. Three different scorers highlighted Atalanta’s threat. They carried that form into a dominant 3-1 home win over Lazio as Mario Pasalic, Teun Koopmeiners and the in-form Charles De Ketelaere all scored. De Ketelaere was on target again in a 4-1 drubbing away at relegation candidates Genoa.
Despite the hosts equalizing early in the second half, three late Atalanta goals sealed a comprehensive victory. Most recently, Atalanta swept aside an out-of-form Sassuolo 3-0 courtesy of goals from Pasalic, Koopmeiners and Mitchel Bakker. So Atalanta’s surging attack has struck an impressive 14 goals over this five game period. With the league’s best offense and an improving defense, Atalanta have emerged as potential top four challengers.
