Aberdeen vs St. Johnstone: Preview
Aberdeen form analysis
Aberdeen’s defense has badly struggled recently, conceding 11 goals over their last five matches. On February 24th, Aberdeen fell 2-0 away to Kilmarnock after first half goals from Ndaba and Kennedy. Earlier on February 17th, Aberdeen drew 2-2 at home with Hibernian in a back and forth affair including goals from Miovski, Devlin and McGrath for Aberdeen. Prior to that on February 15th, Aberdeen played to a wild 3-3 draw with Motherwell, storming back from 3-0 down behind a brace from Duk and goal from Gartenmann.
On February 7th, Aberdeen narrowly fell 2-1 at home to Rangers despite Miovski answering early and late Rangers goals. Aberdeen’s best recent result came in a 1-1 home draw with Celtic on February 3rd as Miovski canceled out Celtic’s lead. So while Aberdeen has shown some attacking promise, their defense has badly undermined results. Tighter organization and consistency at the back will be vital moving forward.
St. Johnstone form analysis
St. Johnstone has struggled mightily at both ends of the pitch recently, failing to score while conceding goals in bunches. On February 24th, St. Johnstone fell 2-0 away to St. Mirren from an own goal and late Mandron strike. Earlier on February 18th, St. Johnstone was hammered 3-0 at home by Rangers, conceding twice late to Tavernier penalties. Prior to that on February 11th, St. Johnstone took an early lead at Dundee through Smith but conceded twice including late to fall 2-1.
On February 8th, St. Johnstone suffered a narrow 1-0 home loss to Hearts from a second half Shankland winner. St. Johnstone’s best recent result came in a 1-0 away win at Ross County on February 3rd thanks to a first half goal from Kimpioka. Overall though, St. Johnstone has struggled badly to generate any offense while showing little defensive organization or resistance. Lacking talent throughout the squad, consistency and major upgrades will be badly needed for St. Johnstone to turn results around.
