The Indian Premier League Governing Council laid out the ‘Player Regulations 2025-27’ on Saturday. As per the press release, each team can retain a maximum of six players from their existing squad.
The players can be retained through retention or Right to Match option. The six retentions can involve a maximum of five capped players and a maximum of two uncapped players.
It is to be noted that the auction purse has now been increased to 120 crores.
Following are the salary slabs for the six retentions allowed for each franchise.
- Retention 1: 18 Crores
- Retention 2: 14 crores
- Retention 3: 11 crores
- Retention 4: 18 crores
- Retention 5: 14 crores
Also, the salary slab of an uncapped player is INR 4 crores.

Mumbai Indians
Skipper, Hardik Pandya is likely to be the first retention choice for Mumbai Indians. He is likely to take home 18 crores, while Suryakumar Yadav could well be the second retention, taking home 14 crores. For the third retention, they could go in for someone like Nehal Wadhera for INR 4 crore.
Rohit Sharma could well be their fourth retention, while Jasprit Bumrah as the fifth retention. For the sixth retention, rising star, Tilak Varma could retain his place in the team.

Chennai Super Kings
New skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad could well be their first retention, followed by Ravindra Jadeja as second for INR 14 crore. MS Dhoni can now be roped in as an uncapped player for INR 4 crore.
The likes of Shivam Dube, Rachin Ravindra and Matheesa Pathirana could well be their fourth, fifth, and sixth retentions.

Kolkata Knight Riders
Despite not in great form, KKR should keep their faith in Shreyas Iyer as the skipper of the team. He will fetch INR 18 crores. Their seasoned campaigner Andre Russell could well be roped in as the second retention for INR 14 crore, while Harshit Rana could be used as the third retention.
Sunil Narine is likely to be taken as the fourth retention, followed by Rinku Singh and Venkatesh Iyer as the fifth and sixth retentions, respectively.

Rajasthan Royals:
Rajasthan Royals have some solid campaigners that the team wouldn’t want to lose. They would surely retain Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler as the first two retentions. Sandeep Sharma could be used as the third retention, while Yashasvi Jaiswal and Chahal could fetch 18 and 14 crores as fourth and fifth retentions, respectively.

Sunrisers Hyderabad:
Pat Cummins should continue to lead the team and picked as the first retention. Travis Head makes his way as the second retention, while Heinrich Klaasen could be picked as the third retention. Abhishek Kumar could well be used as the fourth retention, followed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the fifth retention.

Gujarat Titans
Skipper Shubman Gill should continue to lead and be their first choice. He should be roped in for INR 14 crores, followed by M Shami as the third retention. For the third retention, they could go for someone like Sai Sudarshan. Rashid Malik could be used as the fourth retention option, followed by David Miller as the fifth retention.

Lucknow Super Giants
Recent reports have suggested that KL Rahul will be retained as the first retention option, followed by Nicholas Pooran as the second retention choice. For the third retention choice, they could opt for Marcus Stoinis.
Mayank Yadav could be picked as the uncapped choice, followed by Quinton and Ravi Bishnoi.

Punjab Kings
With Shikhar Dhawan retired from all formats, Sam Curran could be picked as the first retention choice, followed by Arshdeep Singh as the second option. Shashank Singh could be roped in as the third option, followed by Harshal Patel, Liam Livingstone and Kagiso Rabada.

Delhi Capitals
Delhi would be confident of Rishabh Pant’s ability as the captain. He should well be the first retention option, followed by Axar Patel as the second retention option. For the third retention, they can opt for someone like Abhishek Porel. Kuldeep Yadav could serve as the fourth retention, followed by Tristan Stubbs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore:
Virat Kohli isn’t likely to go anywhere and should serve as the first retention. Faf du Plessis hadn’t done anything wrong as captain and might be picked as the second retention option. Rajat Patidar could be roped in as the third retention, while M Siraj and Glenn Maxwell could well take the fourth and fifth retention options.
