GTA Vice City Stories didn’t get as much recognition as the iconic Vice City, but it still had enough to impress the GTA community. It had better features and gameplay mechanics. While Tommy Vercetti is a more iconic and memorable protagonist for players, Victor Vance also has his own fanbase. The OG Vice City was fun with its interesting missions and crazy characters, but it lacked a few things. The studio worked on those things and fixed most of them in GTA Vice City Stories.
Vehicles
GTA Vice City had a great range of vehicles like motorcycles and cars, but it fell short as compared to other GTA titles like GTA Vice City Stories, which had several new vehicles, including bicycles and ATVs. This made the game more fun in the exploration aspect, as players could try different modes of transportation. Players could do many possible things that were impossible in the OG Vice City.
Refined controls
The 3-D era of GTA games had weird control features that made the gameplay less fun and enjoyable sometimes. This big issue was resolved in the GTA Vice City Stories. Rockstar Games refined the controls for both keyboard and mouse, as well as for controllers, so that players could enjoy smooth gaming. The control of RC vehicles became much easier to handle and players could complete their tasks successfully instead of crashing into things.
Improved Missions
After GTA 3 being the introductory 3-D game for the Rockstar Games it was Vice City that made a big jump in the gaming world. However, the game was still far behind in terms of mission structure. However, Rockstar worked on this aspect and made the tasks in Vice City Stories even better. The overall length of the missions were longer that played a big part in keeping everyone interested. Victor Vance gave more thrill and action that was missing in the Vice City.
An Interesting Plot
Rockstar Games always drops players into the life of a criminal and makes them do back-and-forth missions and the story unfolds slowly. This was the case in Vice City, where players suddenly start playing as Tommy Vercetti and work for the Mafia without knowing anything about his past life. This was improved by the studio in Vice City Stories, which led the players slowly into Victor Vance’s life. The plot progressed from him serving in the military to slowly becoming a criminal to save the lives of his loved ones. This showed much better storytelling that got the players into the plot and characters better.
A more relatable Protagonist
Tommy Vercetti is iconic and one of the most beloved GTA protagonists. Mainly due to his daring acts and hilarious talks. However, the players couldn’t relate to him as he spent his day slashing rivals and taking over their business. On the other hand, Victor Vance proved to be a much more relatable character with his daily struggles and sad backstory. He was discharged dishonorably from the military after falsely being put into a conspiracy and then ended up going against his senior in the underworld business.
