India’s middle-order batter, Suryakumar Yadav has been named as the captain of the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year for 2023. Apart from him, three more Indians namely Yashasvi Jaiswal, Arshdeep Singh, and Ravi Bishnoi have been picked in the squad.
Suryakumar Yadav features in the T20 team of the year for the second consecutive year. He finished as the highest run-scorer in T20I internationals in the year 2023 among the top ten nations.
In 18 T20Is played in 2023, Suryakumar Yadav amassed 733 runs at an average of 48.86 and a strike rate of 155.95. He began the year with just a 7-run knock against Sri Lanka but followed it up with impressive knocks of 51 (36) and 112 (51) in the next two outings.
Overall, he scored 2 centuries and 4 half-centuries in the shortest format in the year 2023. Suryakumar Yadav’s best knock came in the last T20I of the year, in which he smashed a century off just 56 balls against South Africa.
Talking about the complete T20I team of the year, England’s opener Phil Salt has been selected to open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal, followed by Nicholas Pooran at number three.
In 13 T20Is played this year, Nicholas Pooran has smashed 384 runs, striking at over 160. New Zealand’s big hitter, Mark Chapman also had a sensational year with the bat, having managed 576 runs in 21 matches at 44.30. He too gets his name in the list.
Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza has made a name for himself in the last couple of years, thanks to his consistent performances with the bat across formats. Raza is also a part of the T20I team of the year 2023 along with the likes of Uganda’s all-rounder Alpesh Ramjani.
Additionally, Richard Ngarava is the second Zimbabwe player to be featured in the list. Ireland, Mark Adair has claimed 26 wickets in 16 T20I played this year. Left-arm pacer makes his way into the elite list as well.
